Employment in the area around the station is set to grow by 41% from 3,800 to 5,400 jobs between 2001 and 2016 and these people need to be able to get to work. A new station would provide a station within a short walk and would also provide alternative modes of travel for those going to and from work in the area.

A new station would also bring much needed extra investment and a more skilled workforce to the area. It would increase the number of jobs available
to the local population by 30% - from 77,150 to 100,000.

Crucially the new station would also be the only one on the second phase of the East London Line to be in the Thames Gateway – a key national priority area for regeneration and investment.

“A new station will bring much needed investment to the area. It will not only connect this part of the Borough to a more skilled workforce but also more job opportunities as the number of jobs available to the local population will increase by over 30%. Businesses in south London deserve a new station
and I am 100% behind this campaign to get Surrey Canal Road station
secured and built.”
